Three Telford students receive first Georgia Williams grants
Three students who attend the same college as murdered Shropshire teenager Georgia Williams are the first to receive grants in her memory.
The trio from New College in Telford have received funds to support the cost of a trip to Morocco in March 2015.
Molly Harvey, Mary Cox and Libby McKendrick will help to repair irrigation channels damaged by flooding in a deprived village.
As well as receiving support from the trust, the teenagers, who are studying travel and tourism, have also helped fellow students to raise money for the Georgia Williams Trust.
The charity was set up following the murder the 17-year-old from Wellington by her friend Jamie Reynolds. Its aim is to generate funds to enable young people to take part in activities and contribute to the local community as Georgia did.
Richard Langton, the charity's chairman said: "The Georgia Williams Trust is about making a difference for local young people and it's great to see these three young women really benefitting from a grant."
The three students are among a group of 30 advanced level New College Telford students travelling with staff to Morocco. During their stay, the group will spend a day visiting the ancient imperial city of Marrakech and will visit Imlil where they will help to repair irrigation channels damaged by floods.
Molly Harvey said: "This is something Georgia would have liked to have been part of and it is great to be able to go on the trip."
Anyone aged between 11 and 18 who either lives or studies in Telford & Wrekin can apply for grants at www.thegeorgiawilliamstrust.org
