Wellington civic dinner date aids charities
Nearly 100 people attended the Mayor of Wellington's annual dinner, which is organised by Wellington Town Council to raise money for the mayor's charities.
This year, the event at the Buckatree Hall Hotel in Wellington on Saturday attracted more than 84 people and it is hoped it will have raised £1,000.
The mayor, Councillor Graham Riley, has chosen the Shropshire Kidney Patients' Association and Shropshire Prostate Cancer Support Group as his two charities and any money raised will be split between the two. Barclays Bank has agreed to match-fund the money. Wellington businesses also helped with the fundraising by donating prizes.
CouncillorRiley said: "We had 35 prizes and they were all good. At the moment I can't give a figure of how much we raised but I'm hoping it will be in the region of £1,000."
While sat around their tables, all 84 guests also did the hokey-cokey to raise awareness for a forthcoming attempt to break a world record - watch the video here.
Hands Around the Wrekin are trying to get at least 7,500 people to join hands around The Wrekin and do the hokey-cokey
on September 21. It was inspired by online discussions around the Telford Memories Facebook page.
