Wellington Town Council agreed in principle to work with Newport Town Council to employ a CSO who would have extra powers to issue parking tickets to people who parked illegally.
Councillor Stephen deLauney, chairman of the policy and resources committee, told the full council yesterday that the cost to Wellington would be £5,000 for the first trial year.
He said: "The total cost is £22,000. The police and crime commissioner has offered to pay a third and Newport will pay two thirds of the remainder, because they want the officer two thirds of the time."
He said warnings would be issued before fines imposed.
