Shrewsbury named one of the best places to live

Shrewsbury has been named as one of the best places to live in Britain.

Published

It is one of 10 towns in the West Midlands to feature on The Sunday Times Best Places To Live In Britain list.

And Shrewsbury is one of only 101 towns in the country to become recognized for community spirit, good shops, and local services.

Editor of the supplement, Helen Davies, believes house prices have gone up in Shrewsbury in the last year because it offers both charm and modernity.

She said: "Buyers are attracted to Shrewsbury's past – the medieval heart, with its narrow alleyways and ancient timber-framed buildings is encircled by the River Severn, which is why it has retained a lot of its charm.

"Its modern-day attributes include good schools, restaurants and shops and the fact that it's small enough to walk everywhere."

Shrewsbury also made the list last year and its ranking is no surprise to residents. Sue Pugh, 71, has recently moved to Shrewsbury from Cardiff and

said: "I am not surprised at all, Shrewsbury is such a friendly place."
