Shropshire man is cleared of Valentine's Day rape
A man has been cleared of raping a woman in Shropshire on Valentine's Day seven years ago.
A jury unanimously found Adam Mitchell, 27, of Liverpool Road, Whitchurch, not guilty of the allegation.
He was accused of raping a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at an address in Shrewsbury on February 14, 2007.
She did not report the allegation until October 2012 after she entered into a conversation on Facebook with Mr Mitchell to try and provide some proof to back her claims, the court heard.
The woman had claimed Mr Mitchell had sent her a text message saying "sorry for raping you" but had deleted it after having it on her phone for around a year.
Mr Timothy Harrington, for Mr Mitchell, said the pair had consensual sex at her house.
He said Mr Mitchell had never sent text messages and or spoken to the woman admitting rape.
