Jake rushed to vets after eating food found on walk

Meet Jake, who has just recovered from a brush with death – after eating peanuts.

The seven-year-old beagle-spaniel cross came across some nuts while out on a walk with his owner Celia Todd.

He collapsed just a few minutes later and ended up having to undergo emergency treatment to save him.

Today Mrs Todd warned other pet owners to be careful what their animals eat, saying the peanuts appeared to have been dropped deliberately on badger trails in the village of Pant Glas near Oswestry.

Jake is back to his energetic self, but Mrs Todd, 72, says she was convinced she was going to lose him.

The issue was raised this week at a meeting of Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council after initial fears the nuts may have been laced with poison.

She said: "I would ask whoever is leaving the peanuts there and for whatever reason to stop."

The RSPCA and police have been informed and the nuts were taken away for analysis to check they hadn't been poisoned.

But after analysis this has been discounted, with experts believing Jake suffered an ellergic reaction to the nuts.

RSPCA spokeswoman Nicola Walker said: "If anyone does have any additional information regarding this we would urge them to contact us."
