He said: "I have greatly admired Diana's year as High Sheriff .

"From lying on a bunk bed in a prison to going out with the street pastors and learning about many areas of local life, she has really shown a servant ministry to so many."

Bishop Mark was speaking at the High Sheriff's Legal Service in thanksgiving for the Queen's Peace and Our Heritage, which brings together the judiciary from High Court, District and Circuit Judges to local magistrates and many county dignitaries who yesterday, were joined by Lord Justice of Appeal, the Rt Hon Lord Justice Floyd, all led by Lord Lieutenant Sir Algernon Heber-Percy and his wife the Hon Lady Heber-Percy joining Mrs Flint and her barrister husband Charles.

The service was held at Ellesmere College chapel, a location very close to Mrs Flint's heart – she was the first girl to become a pupil there at the age of 16.

Sir Algernon read a prayer for Shropshire and the High Sheriff thanked all who continued to work in our courts despite the pressures of public service.

Lord Lieutenant presented certificates for 20 years of service to magistrates Robin Durham, Ailsa Douglas, John Keaney and Christine Holmes, all from the Shrewsbury Bench, and Terry Duncan and Richard Stilwell, from Telford.
