Two main Shropshire roads closed by lorry accidents
Two main roads in Shropshire were closed today following separate accidents involving lorries.
Both the A41 Albrighton bypass and the A5 Nescliffe bypass were closed after one lorry jack-knifed and the other overturned.
Emergency services were called Station Road, near Albrighton Railway Station, just before 9am.
The incident happened close to the junction of the A41 Albrighton bypass and West Mercia Police say the A41 is completely blocked.
Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: "We were called shortly before 9am by the ambulance service. The report coming to us is that one vehicle is involved and it has completely blocked the A41.
"It is on Station Road close to Albrighton Railway Station."
An advanced community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew attended.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The lorry driver, a man in his thirties, was experiencing tenderness to his back. He was immobilised onto a spinal board and was freed from his cab with the help of the fire service who also attended the scene. He was taken to Princess Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment."
Meanwhile, the A5 Nesscliffe bypass in Felton Butler was blocked at 7am after a lorry overturned.
The road was then closed while the lorry was recovered, leading to delays and queueing traffic thoughout the morning.
Joanne Miles, a secretary from Nesscliffe, was driving past the overturned truck at just after 7am.
She said: "The lorry had completely fallen over and was lying on its side. But luckily, the driver had got out and the lorry was at the side of the road so cars could still get past. It did look nasty though."
