Representatives from Newport Town Council met with Superintendent Nav Malik, from West Mercia Police, on Monday, where it was confirmed that a warden will return to the streets soon.

Newport Town Council and Wellington Town Council have agreed to stump up the cash to pay the wages of a Community Support Officer, who will have powers to ticket vehicles parked illegally. The total cost of the CSO will be £22,000 for a year. Newport Town Council has budgeted £10,000, while Wellington Town Council has offered £5,000. The PCC will make up the remainder.

Mayor Councillor Tony Forrester said: "At last we might get some order in the town."
