Devastated family pay tribute to Shropshire man

The devastated family of a missing man from Shropshire who is feared to be dead have paid a loving tribute.

A body recovered from the River Severn in Shrewsbury on Wednesday has yet to be formally identified but is believed to be that of 28-year-old Robert Bartlett.

The body was seen by a member of the public in the river, opposite the Pengwern Boat Club, at just after 1pm.

It was recovered from the water by specialist police crews at just before 2pm. Mr Bartlett had been visiting family in the Welshpool area from his home in London when he went missing just over a month ago.

His car was found parked in the town's Victoria Quay following his disappearance.

Mr Bartlett's family were informed of the find by police and the Shropshire coroner John Ellery was also notified. Relatives today described him as a much-loved and loving person.

In a statement, Mr Bartlett's family said: "We are devastated by this news and will deeply miss Robert.

"He was a very much loved and loving son, brother, uncle and partner.

"We would like to thank the police, the missing persons' charity, search teams and the public for their support and commitment over the last few weeks."

A post mortem is likely to be conducted later todayand an inquest opened in due course by Mr Ellery.

West Mercia Police have said they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances to the death.

Mr Bartlett disappeared on February 17.

He had last been seen at a relative's house in Middletown, near Welshpool.
