Jessica Bryers, from Foxholes near Wem, is trying to ride 10k over a seven-day period on her horse in aid of Sports Relief

Now Jessica Bryers, who turns six today, is already able to ride confidently on her own.

Jessica, who lives in Foxholes, near Wem, has been putting her skills to the test this week to raise money for Sport Relief.

She plans to trot 10k on her pony Peeps over a seven-day period, which started on Sunday.

Her father Ryan said: "She loves horses and has been on horseback since she was 13 months old with her mum Nicola.

"At the age of five or six most children struggle to ride. Jess is walking, trotting and cantering on her own and is hopefully going to be a star riding in Shropshire if she continues to develop.

"She saw the TV coverage of Sport Relief and asked us if she could do something. She said 'why don't I ride my pony Peeps and see if people will sponsor me?'

"So the plot was hatched and between us we decided that Jess would do 10k of rising trot – something that most adults would struggle with on horseback."

Meanwhile, Criftins Tennis Club, near Ellesmere, will be taking part in their own fundraiser for Sport Relief.

On Saturday members will set up a tennis court adjacent to the Tesco store in Ellesmere, where they will attempt to hit 10,000 tennis balls in a four-hour period. Call 07973 133656.
