Fine for man caught with amphetamines
A man has been fined after more than £700 worth of amphetamines were found in his house.
Jeremy Sebastian Frater, 24, of Lon Maesycoed, Newtown, was stopped by police in Newtown town centre after they detected a smell of cannabis on him.
The officers searched Frater and found a small amount of amphetamine in his pocket. He was taken to the police station while other officers searched his home, finding 73.51g of amphetamine, a Class B drug and 0.055g of ketamine, a Class C drug.
Frater, who admitted possessing the drugs at Welshpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday was fined £75 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Mrs Helen Tench, prosecuting, said two officers stopped Frater on December 3 last year when they could smell cannabis on him.
She said: "They searched him and found a small white package which contained amphetamine. They took him to the station and searched him, while other officers went to his home where they found the amphetamine and ketamine.
"The amphetamine has a street value of £730. Frater gave full and frank admissions in his interviews, saying he had bought it in bulk for his own personal use and he was very sorry."
Mr Paul Inns, for Frater, said his client had used the drug as he battled an eating disorder and confidence issues. He added: "He has never been in trouble before."
