Shrewsbury Museum and Art gallery's cafe ready to welcome customers
Preparations for next week's opening of the £10.5m Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery are continuing, with the attraction's new cafe all ready to welcome its first customers.
The "stop." cafe bar will open its doors on Monday alongside the town's new visitor information centre, a day ahead of the museum's official opening.
The cafe is being run by Mike and Nicola Dalton, who already run a "stop." cafe in St Julian's Friars.
Mr Dalton said they have been on site for the past couple of weeks getting their new cafe ready.
It will open at 9am on Monday.
Mr Dalton said he was excited but also nervous about the couple's new venture.
He said he and his wife have had the chance to look around the rest of the museum and art gallery complex and had been impressed with what they have seen.
"We have had a good look around the museum and art gallery areas.
"It really really looks special and well worth a visit," he said. "It looks superb.
"The job they have done is fantastic."
The new cafe certainly stands out with its blue and orange tables, wood floor and white walls.
Earlier this month, Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member for business growth, welcomed the news the Daltons would be taking on the site.
He said: "The cafe bar will be a really important part of what we offer to visitors and I'm pleased that – in Mike and Nicola – it will be in such good hands.
"I'm delighted that it will be run by a local couple with an impressive track record of running a successful and popular coffee shop, and I'm really pleased that they will be serving locally-sourced food and drink.
"I'm looking forward to visiting the stop. café bar for coffee and cake once the museum opens its doors."
