Police appeal to trace 'distressed' girl seen in Ellesmere
Police are trying to trace a young girl spotted on the outskirts of Ellesmere in a distressed state.
A concerned member of the public phoned police saying she had seen a girl crying while sat beneath a lamp post by the roundabout near the entrance to the town from the Oswestry direction.
An extensive police search was unable to trace the girl and an appeal was issued today for her or her parents to come forward for a welfare check.
Sergeant Ed Bates said the girl was white, aged about 14, with shoulder-length blonde hair and of slim build. She was wearing a light coloured top and jeans.
He said: "A passer-by spotted her between 9.30pm and 10pm and attempted to speak to her. The girl was clearly upset and was not wearing shoes or a coat.
"I would urge her or her parents to contact Oswestry police station by calling 101. We just want to be reassured she is safe and well. Until then, our inquiries are continuing."
