Plans have been submitted by Bristol-based solar installation company Elgin Energy Esco Ltd to build the solar farm on a development site in Sundorne.

It is intended the site would cover 85 acres at Sundorne Grove, within a field to the west of Sundorne Farm and the south west of Dell Farm.

The plans are the latest in a string of proposals to create huge solar farms in Shropshire. The panels would be 2.4 metres tall and could have a lifespan of 25 years.

It comes days after it was revealed a potential solar farm which would feature around 70,000 panels has been proposed for land at Twemlows Stud Farm, near Whitchurch. Similar plans for solar farms in Wheat Leasowes in Hadley, Telford, and Green Farm, about a mile north of Condover, near Shrewsbury, have also been put forward.

A report submitted in support of the Sundorne plans said the site would potentially be able to generate 19 million kWhs of electricity per year, enough to power about 5,800 houses.

It would take four to five months to construct.

A decision on the scheme is expected to be taken by mid-June.
