Poll: Is the Grand National too cruel?

All eyes will be on Aintree today for the 167th running of the Grand National.

The world's most famous steeplechase is run over nearly four and a half miles and officials are hoping all runners and riders make it to the finish line safely as they did last year, following equine fatalities in previous years.

Teaforthree, which came third last year, is among the favourites, alongside Long Run, Monbeg Dude and Tidal Bay.

Animal Aid, which calls the event a "deliberately hazardous race", says 24 horses have died on the Grand National course since 2000.
