Telford school among best for pupil progress

A Telford school has been named as one of the top schools for achievement at GCSE.

Madeley Academy has been put in the top 20 per cent of schools nationally for progress made by pupils between their key stage 2 results at primary school and their GCSE results at age 16.

The announcement was made following a recent recent analysis of Department for Education data on all state-funded schools in England by SSAT, the national schools' membership organisation.

Because of its achievement school has qualified for an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award.

The school has been invited to receive their award at a regional ceremony hosted by SSAT at Waverley School in Birmingham on June 4.

Teachers at Madeley Academysaid they are delighted at the recognition.

Lady Maria Satchwell, headteacher, said : "I am very proud of this recognition of all the hard work that goes on here at Madeley Academy.

"We strive to get the very best opportunities for all our students and to ensure they have the skills and qualifications for their next steps.

"To that end, all students leaving our sixth form last year continued on to University or gained employment – an achievement of which we are immensely proud.

"We are excited about the year ahead as we build upon the last seven years of increasing progress for our students and we look forward to sharing their successes this summer."

Madeley Court School became an academy in 2007 before moving into its new premises in 2009.
