The charges were outlined in Telford & Wrekin Council's budget plans as it seeks to bridge a £22 million cash deficit over the next two years.

From May 16, visitors will pay £2.90 to park all day, an increase of 50p, while a 30 minute stay increases by 10p to 80p.

From this Saturday (12), when both the park and ride and Gorge Connect bus services start again for the summer season, a return adult fare of £1 will be introduced on the Park and Ride, although children will still travel free.

Single fares on the Gorge Connect routes around the Gorge will increase by 15p to £1.65 for adults and £1.15 for children, adult Gorge Day Rover tickets will increase by 20p to £2.20 and child Gorge Rover tickets will go up 5p to £1.55.

Passengers with a national bus pass continue to travel for free and those with an Ironbridge Gorge Museums passport will pay £1 for an all day ticket.

Council-owned car parks in the rest of Telford & Wrekin will continue to be free, and Ironbridge residents will continued to receive permits.

Both the Park and Ride and the Gorge Connect services will start from Saturday April 12. The following weekend they will run from Good Friday to Easter Monday and will then continue to operate on weekends and Bank Holidays until Saturday October 25.

The service will also operate every day during the school holidays from Monday July 21 until Friday August 29.
