Shropshire-bound man wrestled rail staff
A man believed to be heading for north Shropshire wrestled with staff as he tried to get on a moving train as it left the station.
The scuffle with the man, who is thought to have been trying to get to Wem, came so close to the platform at Wolverhampton that the train had to be stopped.
Police today released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the struggle, which happened on March 12, and are appealing for the public's help in identifying him and tracking him down.
PC Stuart Williamson of the British Transport Police said: "A female member of rail staff was dispatching a Holyhead-bound service from platform 1 at the station shortly before 1.45pm, when a man approached saying he wanted to get on the train.
"The member of staff informed him that he had missed this train as it was starting to leave the platform but the man continued to head towards the moving train and had to be restrained.
"A struggle ensued which caused the member of staff and the man to come dangerously close to the platform edge, causing the train driver to apply the emergency brake and bring the train to a halt.
"Enquiries have been ongoing to trace the man involved but to no avail. I am today releasing a CCTV image of a man I would like to speak to as I believe he will have information which can assist the investigation. It is believed he was trying to travel to Wem in Shropshire."
