A van bellowing thick black smoke was hit by a lorry, after it is believed the truck driver's view was obscured by the smoke.

The Transit van had been heading towards Shrewsbury on the A5 when it pulled over and stopped between Preston and Cluddeley.

The van was stationary when the HGV clipped it at about 3.10pm.

Firefighters from Wellington, Telford and Shrewsbury were called but no action was needed and no-one was injured.

The A5 was temporarily closed while the van was removed but the road was reopened just over an hour later.

Craig Jackson, Watch Manager at Wellington fire station, said: "The van driver had pulled over and put its hazard lights on but because it was still difficult to see it was clipped by an HGV."
