Harper Adams University students Chloe Cross and Tom Gardner were invited to Number 10 Downing Street on Monday.

They were among 150 "flood heroes" invited to attend a reception event with Mr Cameron.

Chloe and Tom encouraged students at the university near Newport to donate cash and equipment to held the Somerset farmers in their hour of need.

Chloe, from Addlestone in Surrey, raised money by designing and selling limited edition T-shirts and manning the canteen with a collection bucket.

She kick-started the campaign when she realised that many Harper Adams staff and students wanted to help those affected by the extreme weather.

Tom, from Arundel, West Sussex, rallied around 10 students to orchestrate a fodder collection and delivery campaign.

The group appealed to Shropshire farmers, land owners and companies to donate feed which the students then personally delivered to those requiring help.

Chloe, 21, said: "The Prime Minister addressed us all and acknowledged the different levels of help that we each gave."
