Planning inspector rejects Shropshire homes bid
Controversial plans to create 22 homes in a town have been thrown out by a government planning inspector.
It follows a hearing in January over the scheme to build nine town houses and 13 apartments off Mill Street in Wem.
The plans sparked concerns of flooding, traffic and the development being out of keeping with the area.
The Millhouse Group, appealed to a planning inspector to overturn Shropshire Council's decision to reject the scheme. The company submitted the proposal about nine months after having a similar scheme thrown out.
Inspector Ian Radcliffe said: "The site is in a sustainable location and the development would have social and economic benefits. However, I consider that any presumption in favour of development is significantly and demonstrably outweighed by the harm that would be caused to designated heritage assets, living conditions and the failure to minimise flood risk."
