Fly-tippers spark Telford beauty spot fears

A pile of beds, sofas and general waste has been dumped at a Telford beauty spot.

The rubbish was left overnight on Friday. A shocked resident said he could not believe the amount of rubbish that had been left in Little Dawley.

Fears have also been raised the waste could pollute the nearby Wide Waters Pool, off South View Road, if any of it was thrown in to the water.

Bryn Jones, who lives in nearby Majestic Way, said: "There are beds and a three-piece suite, which have just been dumped.

"There's loads of stuff and it looks like whoever did it has used a big lorry. Some of the rubbish is in bags so God knows what's in them.

"It's right next to the lake where fishermen go and there's some concern it could pollute the water if any of it gets thrown in."

He said: "They must have used quite a sizeable vehicle and to my knowledge this is the first time anything on this scale has happened in this area. We've had a little bit of fly-tipping before but never anything like this.

"It's usually such a nice spot so it's such a shame this has happened."

Meanwhile, the NFU is urging households who dispose of rubbish, which ends up dumped on farmland, to take more responsibility or face the risk of prosecution.

Fly-tipping is continuing to be a major problem for farmers across the country and this Easter it will be the new focus of the NFU's successful Love your Countryside campaign. Tell us about fly-tipping hotspots. Email ketley.news room@shropshirestar.co.uk or call (01952) 241423.
