Mickey, from Telford, opened the Severn Hospice's new shop in Lawley.

The gold medallist officially cut the ribbon at the charity's store located in Poyners Court by Morrisons.

Severn Hospice's network of 22 shops across the region help fund the essential care the charity provides to thousands of patients each year.

Rob Wilde, associate director for trading at Severn Hospice, said: "It went very well, we were really pleased.

"The sun was shining and plenty of people turned out to see.

"We're delighted to be in Lawley, we spotted this particular unit a while ago but there have been a number of delays.

"It's exciting to be part of the development, there's a real buzz about the place, it is really modern and we're hoping that we can become part of the community."

Mr Wilde said they were pleased to have a sporting hero like Mickey take part.

"It was absolutely fantastic for us to have Mickey there," said Mr Wilde. "He is so well known and a gold medal winner, it couldn't be better.

"He stayed and chatted to everyone.

"Now we are looking forward to developing the shop further. Of course we always need volunteers and people to donate good quality items for us to sell in any of our shops."
