Twin sisters born on different days

When Shropshire twins Elizabeth and Jennifer Boyle came into the world on different days their mother had no idea how much trouble their separate birthdays would cause at school.

The sisters, now 63, were born either side of midnight so one had March 20 on her birth certificate and the other March 21.

When it came to filling in forms for school trips the paperwork would always be sent back home in the girls' rucksacks as teachers thought their mother had made a mistake with the girls' dates of birth.

And the timing of the sisters' birthdays placed them in different seasons and signs of the zodiac.

The siblings contacted the Shropshire Star after reading the story of Shrewsbury-born Isabelle and Evelyn Jones's first birthday – who just like them were born before and after the stroke of midnight.

Isabelle Amelia was born at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on March 15, 2013, at 11.35pm, weighing 4lb 8oz, and Evelyn Elizabeth, known as Evie, was a breech birth so she took a little longer – arriving feet first at 12.10am on March 16, weighing 4lbs 13oz.

Elizabeth, who lives in Leegomery, Telford, said: "We were born eight minutes to midnight and three minutes after.

"Jen was born first. She was 4lbs 3oz and I was 3lb 12oz so I started in an incubator for a few weeks.

"Because of where our birthdays landed, Jen is a Pisces born on the last day of winter and I'm an Aries born on the first day of spring.

"We don't really think it made much difference though.

"It was just a problem when Mum would send forms off for school trips and they would come back because the teachers thought she had written the wrong date."

Their parents Dennis and Dorothy Boyle ran the Majestic Ballroom in Wellington which saw legendary bands such as The Who grace its stage.

Jennifer worked at the Shropshire Star where she met her husband Derek Burrows, who she now lives with in Nantwich.

Elizabeth, a retired PE teacher at Abraham Darby School in Madeley, now plays tennis at the Shrewsbury Club and golf at Wrekin Golf Club, where her father was nine times champion.

Elizabeth said: "We have enjoyed many joint birthdays and parties.

"We are not identical but have enjoyed our close relationship with our elder sister Jill," she added.
