New Next store to open at Shrewsbury retail park
A new Next store will open on Shrewsbury's Meole Brace Retail Park this summer, it has been confirmed.
The new shop will open in the former Comet store – just yards from its existing outlet on the retail park.
Signs have gone up at the site confirming the branch will open in July. The national chain is also on the lookout for new staff, although it is not yet known how many jobs will be created by the move or what will happen to the current store.
Work on the new shop has been progressing for several months and has included gutting the building and installing huge plate glass windows. The Comet store has been empty since the electrical business went in to liquidation in November 2012.
The two-storey Next store will have larger home and children's departments and will stock a more extensive range of mens clothing and womenswear. A new TK Maxx store opened on the retail park off Hereford Road last year and other names on site include Argos, Sports Direct and Boots.
No one from Next was available to comment today.
