The old Comet shop at Meole Brace Retail Park, Shrewsbury, is being transformed into a giant Next store

The shop, which will open on Meole Brace retail park, will be more than three times the size of the current store – which is also on the retail park.

It will include a dedicated 12,000sq ft homeware department.

All current employees will transfer to the new store.

Shop manager Shane Ryder said: "There's an immense amount of interest in the new store.

"We're getting customers coming up to us on a daily basis asking when we open and what's it going to be like.

"What I can tell you is the store will open in July, it's going to look fantastic and all the staff, including myself, can't wait until we open."

The current shop on the retail park will close once the transfer is complete, but no other Next branches in the area will be affected.

Contractors have been working around the clock to ensure the store, housed in the former Comet building, is ready on time. Comet went into liquidation in November 2012.
