As a child growing up Keith Maiden always dreamt of being an artist.

But his family had other ideas and when he left school he began a career as a shop fitter and factory worker.

But his creative dreams never died. His work was spotted during a visit to a printer to have his sketches photocopied and he was offered a job as a graphic designer.

Now Keith, who lives in Shrewsbury, has just signed a deal with one of the largest art publishers in the UK, Washington Green.

Keith said: "From being made redundant to signing a publishing deal with Washington Green is the stuff dreams are made of. My wife has been incredibly supportive of my ambitions to become an artist and her motivation is the inspiration behind my new collection."

Three years ago Keith was made redundant and became a stay-at-home dad, looking after his son who has cerebral palsy and learning difficulties, while his wife went out to work. Being at home gave Keith the chance to spend more time on his art projects, which reignited his passion and determination to work in the industry.

Following a meeting with Glyn Washington, owner of Washington Green Fine Art, Keith was offered an art deal.

Keith said he has spent the best part of two years developing a style and technique of his own through close observations of the human face and form.

Mr Washington said: "Keith is a real talent and we're delighted to have signed him.

"We believe his portraits have universal appeal."

The Keith Maiden Collection will be available to purchase from Castle Galleries across the UK and online.
