Paul Joseph Vidor, 22, of Halifax Drive, Leegomery, admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to report an accident and having no insurance when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday.

He was fined £293 and ordered to pay £275 compensation, £85 costs and £29 victim surcharge. His licence was endorsed and eight penalty points added, and he was banned from driving for six months.

Sara Beddow, prosecuting, said Vidor's Daewoo Matiz collided with a Nissan Note which was waiting to turn right into Village Way in Hadley, Telford, on October 16.

After the collision Vidor drove away, but a passenger in the Nissan took his registration number. A female passenger in the car was taken to hospital with whiplash.

Mr Shakeel Ahmed, defending, said Vidor drove off so that he could take his pregnant girlfriend to the Princess Royal Hospital to be checked.

He said Vidor had only just bought the car and had "stupidly" not got it insured.
