Inquest opens on Shropshire desert biker
An inquest has been opened on a motorcycle racer who died while competing in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
Cameron Waugh, who lived in Dubai, died on April 6 aged 50.
His body was flown back to Shropshire and formally identified by his parents Gordon and Ena, of Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury.
Giving evidence at the opening of the inquest at Shrewsbury Guildhall yesterday, coroner's officer Neil Jenkins said: "He died en route to the hospital in Abu Dhabi. He was a married man and worked as a general manager in Dubai until his death."
The inquest was adjourned until August 6, when full evidence will be given.
Mr Waugh's funeral was held on Friday. He was father to Ben, 20, Amy, 18, and Finn, three, and lived with his wife Jane in Dubai. His two eldest children had travelled from the UK, where they live, to support their father in the race. He had been due to be awarded the Masters series prize after winning the bikes class for over-40s.
