Tories demanding apology over Newport supermarket row bill
Conservatives will call for a public apology from Labour-led Telford & Wrekin Council over the Newport supermarket "fiasco" at an extraordinary meeting next week.
Five Tories have triggered the extraordinary meeting of the council at Telford College of Arts and Technology at 6.30pm on May 8. The only item on the agenda is the amount of money the council has spent concerning supermarkets in Newport – almost £1.4 million.
The local Conservative group will call on the council to "cease any further High Court action associated with its plans for a supermarket development in Newport".
It is also "demanding" an apology from council leader Kuldip Sahota.
Telford & Wrekin Council argues that much of the spend has been "unavoidable" and part of the "normal planning process".
