Man arrested after roof jump threat stand-off

A man was arrested following a two hour stand-off on the rooftops above Llangollen.

Emergency services were called to the town at 3.45pm yesterday after reports were received that a man had been spotted threatening to jump from the roof of a house in Regent Street.

A trained police negotiator as well as police and fire officers went to the scene and the road was closed as a precaution for the safety of passers by, as the man had been throwing roof slates in to the road below.

Kelly Williams, Control room supervisor for North Wales Police, said: "A 32-year-old man from the local area safely came down off the roof came down at 5.50pm.

"He was arrested and taken to hospital to be medically assessed before being questioned by officers. "
