Gang slashes man in the face in Telford attack
A man was slashed in the face as he walked through a Telford street close to the town's main shopping centre.
The 21-year-old man was slashed on Church Parade in Oakengates at 4.45pm yesterday, when the area was busy with shoppers.
Though the injuries were not life-threatening, the victim had to have two or three stitches on his face, to ensure it heals properly.
Police believe he was attacked by a group of men as he walked down the street.
Chris Ammonds, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "We had reports that a 21-year-old man had become involved in an altercation.
"He was punched several times and suffered a slash-type injury to the side of his head, next to his ear."
Mr Ammonds said investigations were still ongoing into the attack but they believe two or three other men were involved in the fight.
Witnesses who live along Church Parade and nearby Priory Road are said to have rushed to the assistance of the man and covered him with towels and blankets while they waited for the arrival of the emergency services.
One man, who wished to remain anonymous, but lives nearby the scene said: "Apparently a car pulled up alongside this lad and three men jumped out and attacked him."
Any witnesses, or anyone who has any information, should contact police on the non-emergency 101 number quoting incident 474S010514.
