Blow as hospice forced to cancel Telford Midnight Walk event
A hospice is to lose out on thousands of pounds after being forced to cancel one of its biggest fundraising events of the year.
Severn Hospice said it could lose up £35,000 after calling off its annual Telford Midnight Walk due to a lack of numbers.
The charity said only 150 people had registered for this year's walk, which was due to take place on May 10 at Telford College of Arts and Technology – down on the 400 who took part last year.
Walkers who had signed up have been offered a place on the Shrewsbury Midnight Walk, which will still take place on May 31, or a refund.
Norma Ross, Severn Hospice's appeals director, said the loss of the much-needed income had been a huge blow.
"It is a great disappointment to us all to have to cancel one of our most famous hospice events," she said.
