The male motorcyclist, who has not been named by police, was riding a black Honda CBR motorcycle when it was involved in a collision with a wagon and two cars on the A489 between Newtown and Kerry yesterday.

The crash happened at 11.50am and the road was closed for six hours while emergency services worked at the scene.

Sian George, Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman, said the force is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

She said: "The vehicles involved were a yellow Suzuki wagon, a blue Ford Galaxy, a green MG ZR and a black Honda CBR motorcycle.

"Tragically the male motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries.

"His next of kin have been informed and no further details will be released at this time.

"The road was closed for six hours and diversions were put in place. Ambulance staff attended the scene and treated two further casualties but the extent of the injuries suffered by these patients are unknown at this time.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone travelling along that stretch of road at the relevant time to contact us."

A spokesman for Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, added: "One crew from Newtown attended a serious road traffic collision on the A489 Newtown to Kerry road. On arrival, it was found that the collision had involved four vehicles.

"The fire crew used hydraulic cutting equipment to free one person from a vehicle and they - along with one other casualty - were taken to hospital.

"We then assisted in making the vehicles safe and left the scene at approximately 1pm."
