Police officers discovered a body off Pyms Road in Wem.

It is believed to be 71-year-old Mr Rogers, known as Phil, who was reported missing last Wednesday after not being seen for several days.

Inspector Jane Fitzpatrick, from West Mercia Police, said: "Police attended Pyms Road in Wem on Sunday following reports of a body being found. It is believed to be the missing person John Philip Rogers.

"Next of kin have been informed. The death is not believed to be suspicious at this time."

Police had been out searching rural areas in and around Wem using specialist search officers and dog handlers.

Volunteers concentrated their efforts on the Wem and Grinshill areas.

Mr Rogers was wearing blue jeans and a blue waterproof jacket when he was last seen.

Neighbours raised the alarm after not seeing him for a few days and his curtains at his home remained closed.
