Shropshire scout in jamboree bid
A determined youngster is preparing to climb three peaks in 24 hours, so he can raise the cash to himself and others attend a worldwide scouting event in Japan.
Shrewsbury teenager Jacob Caddick has been chosen out of thousands of youths from around the UK, to represent the county in the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015 .
But to attend, Jacob must raise hundreds of pounds, and he also plans to help out teenagers from developing countries who would not otherwise be able to go to the event.
Jacob, 14, from Belvidere, will make the epic climb with best friend Angus Comerford,15, who also hopes to go to Japan, and they have already raised hundreds of pounds between them.
Jacob's dad, Sean Caddick, will be accompanying Jacob on the climb, and could not be more proud of his son.
Mr Caddick, who is self employed, said: "Jacob has an unbeliviable opportunity to go to Japan and to be chosen out of so many people is brilliant.
"He has to raise the majority of money to go there and he will also be raising money so boys from less fortunate countries can go.
"We will be climing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon and we will attempt to do this in 24 hours."
The World Scout Jamboree is attended by thousands of scouts from around the world, and previous events have seen young people form Surinam, The Philippines and Rwanda attended thank to the funds raised by their fellow Scouts.
For Jacob and Angus, who are both members of Meole Brace scouts- the climb will be a chance to test their fitness levels as well as raising much needed funds.
Jacob said: "I'm nervous but to go to Japan is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"Sponsor money is already coming in, and both my friends and teachers have been incredibly supportive.
"I am really looking forward to the challenge. I have been up Snowdon before but never the other two mountains and I expect we will get some stunning dawn and dusk views.
"It will be tough going but Angus and I will help each other to keep going."
If you would like to support the boys in their challenge, donations can be sent to Meole Brace Scouts, who can be contacted on 07971166529.
