Residents asked for views on Telford 8,000 homes plan
Residents are being asked for their views on plans which could see 8,000 new homes built in Telford.
The latest consultation on the Council's Shaping Place Local Plan began this week.
The consultation relates to the proposed housing and employment sites document being earmarked for development over the next seventeen years - to 2031.
This part of the plan proposes a target of building 20,000 new homes over the 20 year plan, though nearly 12,000 homes are already committed through existing planning permissions, resolutions to permit and adoption in existing development plans, so in the region of 8,000 new homes are required to deliver the target.
Public consultation on the sites began on Tuesday (6 May) and continues until 5pm Tuesday June 17.
The plan will be available to view and comment on at telford.gov.uk/shapingplaces or in person at any Telford & Wrekin library, or at First Point in Addenbrooke House and Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre.
Drop in sessions may also be taking place so look out for more information online at telford.gov.uk/shapingplaces or check with your local Parish or Town Council to see if they are planning to hold any sessions.
Councillor Charles Smith, cabinet member for housing, development and borough towns, said: "Telford and Wrekin was originally designed for, and remains focused on, providing residents and visitors alike with good housing and a healthy living environment with plenty of accessible open spaces.
"This proposed housing and employment plan sets out how we want to develop over the next 20 years while keeping firmly in mind that aim of maintaining plenty of green open space.
"We want people to give us feedback on the plans set out in the document and I would urge everyone to take part in the consultation and give us comments that will help us to set out a final plan that meets the need for growth in the borough but which residents, employees and visitors feel reflects their needs and aspirations for the future."
The council said the planned developments would seek to strike a balance between urban and rural development and the plan supports an arc of employment around the east of Telford to take advantage of the town's national motorway and rail links.
