River search for missing man in Tenbury

A park next to a river has been cordoned off as police search for a missing man.

Emergency services have been searching the River Teme in Tenbury Wells, on the south Shropshire border, after concerns were raised over the missing man at 8am yesterday morning.

The Burgage park, next to the river, was taped off and is closed to the public.

Speaking yesterday, an eyewitness at nearby Swan Garage, who did not want to be named, said: "There has been a lot of activity there today, it was difficult to get up through town this morning.

"There were police, fire engines and ambulance first responders."

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We are very concerned for the welfare of a man in his 40s from Tenbury Wells.

"There is currently a search being conducted, concentrating on the River Teme area around Tenbury.

"The man is white and of medium build.

"If anyone saw a man behaving in an unusual manner, we urge them to contact the police immediately," he added. To contact police call 101 quoting incident number 093s 090514.
