New bus route for Oswestry
New Sunday and evening bus services are being introduced in Oswestry and its surrounding villages.
The Arriva service will also link Oswestry to its nearest railway station and to Wrexham.
Passengers will be able to take advantage of the new times on the services, 2, 2A and 2C from Sunday.
It is a major coup for Oswestry, which will have one of the very few Sunday and evening bus services in the county.
Local councillor, Steve Davenport said the new times were good news for the area.
The popular bus route, which already runs during the daytime, links Oswestry with Wrexham, calling at Gobowen, Chirk, Cefn Mawr, Acrefair, Ruabon, Johnstown and Rhostyllen.
New stops are being included in the evening and Sunday routes.
Keith Myatt, regional marketing and communications manager of Arriva Midlands, said: "Consultation with our customers highlighted the need for the introduction of evening and Sunday buses between Oswestry and Wrexham. "We are pleased to announce their arrival from Sunday."
The new services on route 2 will call at the Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen Railway Station, St Martins, Chirk, Pentre, Newbridge, Cefn Mawr Plas Madoc, Ruabon, Johnstown & Rhostyllen.
On Sunday buses will leave Oswestry on the half hour, between 8.30am and 3.30pm and from Wrexham between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
From Monday to Saturday evenings there will be buses leaving Oswestry at 6.45pm, 7.45pm and 9pm and from Wrexham on 7.45pm, 8.45pm and 10pm.
Councillor Davenport, Shropshire councillor for the St Martins division, said: "It is great to see Arriva putting on new services to help local people.
"Thanks to the new services people in the villages will be able to use the buses for shopping and to access leisure services. This is really good news for the area."
Councillor Davenport said Shropshire Council was continuing to talk to Arriva.
"We hope this will lead to better services in other areas," he added.
Mr Myatt said: "The introduction of brand new evening and Sunday buses shows that we have listened to our customers during recent consultation.
"Our message to customers is that they should, get on board, leave the car at home and help free up our grid locked roads. Y
"They will find it's much less fuss to travel by bus."
