History event at Quatford
An evening of history has been organised to give new residents an insight in to a Shropshire village's past.
Longstanding residents of Quatford, near Bridgnorth, will share their memories with those who moved recently to the village.
The event, planned for September in the village hall, Chapel Lane, will feature displays about earlier periods, including how Quatford was founded and subsequently overtaken by Bridgnorth.
A diverse range of background materials will also be on display, as will the stories of local figures such as the architect John Smalman, who built Quatford Castle for himself in around 1830, and Reverend George Leigh Wasey, who was the village vicar for many years and author of a book called Our Ancient Parishes.
Spokesman Marian Newell said: "The aim is to show phases of building and demolition over the centuries, with as many illustrations as possible.
"The organisers are looking for people who have memories or memorabilia they wish to share, whether they are former residents or have other links to the area.
"The idea is to bring together lots of smaller details about the people and properties that have made the village what it is today.
"Who knows what developments might be traced in the backgrounds of people's snapshots?
"There will be several ways to participate in the event, from being interviewed in advance to making a short presentation on the night.
"If anyone has films or videos featuring the village they'd like to share, we'd love to hear from them.
"The organisers want to stage a varied and entertaining evening, with information presented in different ways to appeal to a wide audience."
