This amazing shot was captured by 38-year-old Jon Morris using a quadcopter to get a bird's eye view of Ellesmere.

Using a special lens and some clever software, he manages to transform the Mere into an ocean expanse, as the sun sets on the horizon.

It was one of the first images captured by Jon, fromCockshutt, using his model helicopter and he says he was delighted with the results.

He said: "I was out flying and what I decided to to was take panoramic pictures in all different locations around Ellesmere.

"What I did then was stitch all the images together to create this amazing picture which looks like its own little planet.

"In fact that's the first thing I thought when I saw it, it reminded me of the computer game Little Big Planet."

The image shows Ellesmere town and the Mere as well as surrounding fields.

Mr Morris, a consultant on fraud systems for banks, said: "You can really get some wonderful images with the quadcopter.

"Some people give them a bad press, but as long as you use them properly you can get great images like these.

"It really shows off what a beautiful area Ellesmere and Shropshire is, you would not get these kinds of images from the city."
