Bridgnorth youngsters in school trip to Barcelona

More than 50 pupils spent their school holidays taking part in a football festival within sight of FC Barcelona's famous Nou Camp stadium.

Bridgnorth Endowed School joined students from across Europe to compete in the tournament held in Platja D'Aro Spain, in Barcelona.

The 55 students also took part in coaching sessions and played against schools from Hull and Coventry in four different age groups during the tour.

The Bridgnorth side returned victorious after winning seven of their eight matches - and also visited Barcelona's 99,786 capacity stadium during their trip.

Parent Adrian Fellows said: "My son Charlie clearly had a great experience.

"It is not until later in life when reflecting on the memories he realise just how important and memorable these sorts of gatherings are.

"Our sincere thanks go to the staff for the effort and time they put into the trip to Barcelona."

Student Jack Downing said the trip had opened his eyes to future opportunities.

He said: "We had a fantastic time, played some great football went to one of the most amazing stadiums in world, the Nou Camp, in Barcelona.

"I have made some new friends and I can't wait until the next one."

Steve Broom, head of PE at the school and trip organiser, said: "This is the first of many similar opportunities that will be open to students.

"The netball teams have a weekend residential and tournaments at Boreatton Park coming up and we hope to take football and netball teams abroad over the coming years."
