Newport factory worker turns shopkeeper
A factory worker turned entrepreneur believes she has filled a gap in the market by opening a new clothes shop in Newport.
Carol Shore has launched Wardrobe 33, selling a range of casual wear and party clothes for men and women.
Mum-of-two Mrs Shore jumped at the chance to fulfil a lifelong dream after being made redundant at Premier Foods in Knighton in March.
Mrs Shore said: "I worked as machine operator for 16-and-a-half years but was then made redundant.
"I thought about it and knew I had to focus on something for the future.
"I've always wanted to have my own shop for as long as I can remember, so I thought I'd just go for it."
Wardrobe 33 has filled a building in Upper Bar left vacant by the closure of Cups and Wands.
The new store sells T-shirts, tops, skirts, shoes, jewellery and dresses.
It comes after some people who responded to the Newport Town Plan questionnaire called for more choice in clothes shops in the town centre, particularly for men.
Mrs Shore, who lives in Norbury, said: "People always say there is nothing for men or teens, so hopefully I can fill that gap.
"I've already had lots of positive comments about the gents wear.
"I've had lots of people pop in and show an interest already.
"It's quite scary but exciting at the same time. I've just got to get the custom now.
"I'll be changing the ranges all the time."
Mrs Shore will man the shop on her own at first, but she might consider taking on additional staff if things go well.
