Christine Bernath has created her own little piece of history by taking on the role at Shropshire Regimental Museum, based in the grounds of Shrewsbury Castle.

Christine, who is in her 20s, is bucking the trend as many of the volunteers at the museum are pensioners.

She has moved to Shropshire from Perth in Shropshire to take up the post, and museum assistant John Taylor said she had made a flying start.

Her role will include increasing footfall and breathing new life into the museum.

Mr Taylor, who has worked at the museum for 20 years, said: "Christine has only been here a few weeks but it is already looking very positive.

"She has numerous degrees and is very well prepared for the post, I think our main aim is to improve publicity.

"It is often the case that people do not know what is on their own doorstep.

"People often come to the museum and they may have lived in Shrewsbury for years, but they do not actually know we are here and they are very surprised when they see how good we are.

"We are considered of the best military museums in the country and we have an awful lot of offer.

"So one of Christine's main aims will be increasing footfall and raising our profile."
