Businesses urged to make Newport bloom
Businesses in Newport have been urged to spruce up their windows as the town goes for a 10th Heart of England in Bloom award.
The town's In Bloom committee, which looks after the floral decorations in Newport, is preparing to welcome judges on July 7.
They will be looking at the general appearance of the town as well as the flowers on display.
The committee wants to create a striking gold and yellow display to commemorate 50 years of the competition.
Committee member Karen Gorski said: "Our shops and businesses in Newport have produced some impressive window displays for Christmas and St George's Day, and it would be greatly appreciated if they could dress their windows to include a floral, gold or yellow or 50 year theme for this occasion.
"The judges will be walking down the High Street to view the planting and their attention will be drawn to the window displays and the HoEiB certificates which will have been presented to the supporters of baskets and planters for business."
Newport has previously won nine gold awards in the competition.
