Mrs Mackay, who has lived at Woodcote Hall Nursing Home, near Newport, since 2007, celebrated her latest birthday on Wednesday.

Teresa Coyle, activities co-ordinator at Woodcote Hall, said: "Vi's daughter Katrina came in the morning and she had lots of cards and gifts as well."

Mrs Mackay was born on May 28 1911, a month before George V was crowned king.

She lived most of her life in Manchester, Huddersfield, Eastbourne and Scotland before later moving to Oakengates.

During her working life she was a midwife, a bus conductor and a care assistant.

Mrs Coyle said Mrs Mackay was still active and enjoyed chatting to others at the home.

She said: "She can be active, sometimes more so than others. We take her out to tea rooms and garden centres.

"She gets on well with the residents and she likes sitting outside and having a bit of a chat.

"She just relaxes more than anything. She likes listening to music like the old war songs and opera."

Mrs Mackay has three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

And she had a very special visitor to mark her birthday - Rupert the dancing horse.

Rupert is a regular visitor to nursing homes across the county and impresses residents with his ball tricks and dance moves.

Mrs Mackay also enjoyed music by a visiting singer.
