The line was shut at 7.45am.

Fire crews went to the station and used a thermal imaging camera in their checks.

Crews did not find any fire but the locomotive was being recovered and taken to Wrenbury Station and then Crewe.

The line re-opened at 8.50am.

An Arriva Trains Wales spokesman said: "Disruption will continue while we clear the backlog from this morning."
