She drove until she was 97, rowed herself across one of Shropshire's most picturesque lakes for her 100th birthday, and lived independently until she was 102.

Now one inspirational Shropshire woman is celebrating her 104th birthday surrounded by family, and one very large chocolate cake.

Molly Trevanion, a resident at Greenfields Coverage Care in Liverpool Road, Whitchurch, celebrated her birthday yesterday at the centre with a room packed full of family members and special guests.

The secret? "Everything in moderation," she said. "It's about keeping yourself busy with different things."

Born in Middlesex, Mrs Trevanion lived through the first and second world wars, and has many stories to tell.

Daughter-in-law, Hazel Trevanion, said: "She has had an amazing life. She used to drive ambulances during the war, and she'd also sell apples for pennies to schoolchildren when they were getting rid of tuck shops."

Mrs Trevanion married husband Hugh in London and had two children. She now has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. After her husband died 20 years ago, she moved to Iscoyd Park in Whitchurch where her family live.

Having rowed across Dearnford Lake, in Whitchurch, only four years ago on her 100th birthday it seems there's no stopping her.

Mrs Trevanion was presented with two large cakes, bunches of flowers and best wishes. Mayor of Whitchurch town council, Rob Hewson, also gave her flowers.
