A Shropshire woman will be taking a leap of faith this month – to fundraise for her sister.

Claire Hayes will be parascending to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis charities in honour of her 21-year-old sister Natasha Frost, who has suffered with the condition since birth.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition in which the lungs and digestive system become clogged with thick sticky mucus.

Claire, who lives on Norton Drive in Stirchley, Telford, said: "She gets tired very easily and she tries to work part time.

"Cystic Fibrosis doesn't get that much attention, when you talk about it with people they say what is it?"

Natasha added: "I try to live as normal a life as possible but it can make you depressed and you don't always have the energy to do basic things like shopping. I get out of breath very easily."

Now, to raise money and awareness, 30-year-old Claire will be flown in the air on a kite pulled behind a boat, despite not being able to swim.

She said: "I'm not too bad with heights when my feet are on the ground but I'm not sure when I'm just dangling from a rope. Also I can't swim. I will be wearing a life jacket – but I think I'll probably have a panic attack before I need to use that. This is something I've looked at doing for years and years but I've never had the bottle.

"So we were talking and my family said if I did it for charity then I wouldn't be able to back out.

"By the time they'd said it, my sister had set up a fundraising page."

Claire will be doing the parascend on June 26 while in Salou, Spain.

She is hoping to raise £500, and has so far raised £329.

"I've always been close to Natasha," she explained. "I feel helpless when she gets ill and this is my way of helping her."
